Safety & Disclaimer
Last updated: June 17, 2026
1. Educational purpose only
The Manual describes one maker's methods, opinions, and preferences. It is not professional advice and is not a substitute for the safety data sheets (SDS), warning labels, and instructions supplied with your tools, materials, fuels, and household substances. Where the Manual and a manufacturer's instructions disagree, follow the manufacturer.
2. Fire, heat, water & structural safety
- Never leave a flame, a fire, or a fuel-burning device unattended.
- A wood stove set in wrong can burn a house down; a sealed-up room with a flame in it can take the air you breathe. Follow the safe way given for each method.
- Keep a suitable fire extinguisher nearby. Never use water on a grease or fuel fire.
- Work in a ventilated area, away from drafts, flammable materials, children, and pets.
- Strong substances (lye, acids, solvents) burn skin and eyes. Wear protection, ventilate, and store them away from children and pets.
- Before any project touching your home's structure, wiring, or water lines, check local codes and, where it matters, have the work looked at by someone who knows.
3. No health or medical claims
References to "clean," "non-toxic," or "natural" describe ingredient choices and are not medical, health, or safety guarantees. The Manual makes no claim that any method, material, or home remedy will treat, cure, prevent, or diagnose any condition. Household substances and remedies can cause irritation or allergic reactions and may be harmful to some people or animals. Consult a qualified professional regarding any health concern, allergy, pregnancy, or sensitivity.
4. Codes, permits & regulations
Costs, quantities, and methods in the Manual are general starting points for 2026. Always verify the current local codes, permits, and manufacturer instructions for your specific situation from your supplier, and comply with all laws and regulations that apply to you.
5. Off-grid, solar & structural work
The sections on solar, off-grid living, and structural repairs are introductions only. If you undertake such work, you are solely responsible for compliance with all applicable laws, including labeling, warning-label, allergen-disclosure, weights- and-measures, insurance, and consumer-safety requirements in your jurisdiction. Consult qualified legal and insurance professionals before selling.
6. No guarantees & limitation of liability
Results vary by household, climate, and how many methods you apply. We make no guarantee of specific cost savings or income. To the maximum extent permitted by law, David and The Amish Home Savings Manual disclaim all liability for any loss, injury, property damage, or other harm arising from the use or misuse of the Manual or its contents. You assume all risk associated with these methods.
